A Veiw From the Cheap Seats

Bernie's Toast
After Madam Cankles has seemingly coughed and barked her way to the lead and ready to mount the Democrat Party Mantle and hump it all the way to the White House, Bernie Sanders is basically toast......

Sanders is planning to lay off “hundreds” of
campaign staffers across the country
"After Tuesdays drubbing in the latest round of Democratic party primaries, the great Bernie Sanders socialist revolution is officially on life support. Following a comment from Democrat Senate capo Harry Reid that there was no path to the nomination for Sanders, the pressure is going to be turned up on the old goat to give up the ghost and drop out of the race.
It’s quite clear that the sell by date for the Sanders campaign has now passed and after losing all of the votes last night with the exception of Rhode Island the fat lady is now humming as she gets closer to bursting into song.
The increasingly desperate codger is grasping at anything to save him as he gets slowly sucked under by the quicksand of history, like floating the idea of recruiting progressive heroine Elizabeth Warren as his running mate."- (READ MORE)
Reports today say Bernie is ready to lay off hundreds of campaign staff. As the old hunting saying goes: it’s time to call in the dogs and piss on the fire, Bernie

Trump Gets All Foreign Policy and Stuff
Dressed with the trappings of gravitas, Trumps Foreign Policy speech was held at the stately Mayflower Hotel (after a last-minute location change blamed on “overwhelming interest” - from the media) and was presided over by Zalmay Khalilzad, a former U.S. ambassador to Afghanistan and Iraq.
Gaul is supposed to be a big deal, but it’s
nothing. Very disappointing. Terrible hotels.

Trump used a teleprompter despite the fact that he has mercilessly mocked his rivals for doing the same, saying at one point: “If you’re running for president you shouldn’t be allowed to use a teleprompter.”

I read the text of Trumps Speech. (I did liked the complete sentences) But all in all, it was a bunch of lines from other Trump speeches forced into an outline by some poor speech writer.  I learned nothing new, except that when a text of his usual blather is shoved in front of him, he can deliver it with only minimal digressions into calling things "great", "wonderful" and "tremendous". And by some miracle, the only wall he mentioned was the Berlin one. (really no need, this was not a rally of rabid supporters to lather up) But Trump did give an indication of believing what he was saying. The Big Question left is whether Trump is too big of a flake to live up to executing his own speech once in office.

Get ready to start hearing from the media about how presidential he is, at least until the next rally where he pulls down his pants, waves his dick around, and the crap gets beat out of someone.

And What if Trump Wins the Nomination?

Will The Republican Establishment Elect Hillary

by Ben Shapiro

With both Donald Trump and Senator Ted Cruz (R-TX) running ahead of establishment favorite Senator Marco Rubio (R-FL) in Rubio’s home state of Florida, the establishment is beginning to realize how precarious its situation actually is. Cruz and Trump are most likely to win Iowa; Rubio is running a distant third in current polling. In New Hampshire, Rubio runs a distant second behind Trump, but he’s grouped in with Governor Chris Christie (R-NJ), Cruz, Governor John Kasich (R-OH) and former Governor Jeb Bush (R-FL).

And so the possibility now arises: if Donald Trump is the nominee, will the Republican Party back him? Or will they destroy the party the way they suggested ardent conservatives were poised to do in 2008 and 2012?

It appears that Republican establishment figures are already thinking along those lines. On Thursday, former New Jersey governor Christine Todd Whitman wrote:
“Republicans, now is the time to defeat this scourge of our party. We can make America great again by defeating the selfishness, arrogance and bigotry of Donald Trump.”
She called Trump “evil” and compared him to Hitler. She called Trump a threat to “the very foundational values on which our party and our nation were built.”

Does that sound like someone prepared to support Trump if he wins the nomination?

On Wednesday, Politico reported that Bush aides “began looking into the possibility of making a clear break with Trump – potentially with the candidate stating that, if Trump were the nominee, Bush would not support him….the option may still be on the table.”

Meanwhile, Joe Scarborough said on MSNBC’s Morning Joe that if Trump were the nominee, the Republican Party honchos would run a third party candidate to split the vote and give Hillary Clinton the presidency:

“I think Haley Barbour and a lot of the Republican leaders would much rather Hillary Clinton be President of the United States than have Donald Trump represent them as a Republican.” Scarborough went on to suggest that the establishment would recruit Mitt Romney or Michael Bloomberg to run third party to take a “political bullet for his party.”
Back at the end of November, The Hill suggested that GOP donors would back Hillary over Trump:
“In conversations over the past month, GOP establishment donors have confided to The Hill that for the first time in recent memory, they find themselves contemplating not supporting a Republican nominee for president.”
The establishment and their donor base have spent so much time trying to determine how to lock grassroots conservatives out of the halls of power that they’re now finding themselves overrun – and they’re fleeing into the arms of defeat. Trump’s ascendancy has made one thing crystal clear: the establishment wouldn’t just prefer Hillary over Trump – their decision not to support Trump virtually guarantees Hillary the presidency – but that they would prefer Hillary over Ted Cruz. They could, at any time, move their support from Rubio and Christie and Kasich and Bush to Cruz; if they did so, Cruz would wallop Trump in the primaries. They aren’t doing so, because they hold out hope that Rubio will somehow pull victory from the jaws of defeat.

That hope is fading. The longer they wait, the clearer it becomes that the establishment’s worst nightmare isn’t merely Trump, but something bigger: losing control of the Party to either a hard-line conservative or a populist. It’s their way or the highway.

And if they don’t get their way, they’ll make Hillary Clinton president.

How Long Will Carly Fiorina's "Moment" Last?

Vintage media sources, like the Washington Post, think Carly Fiorina is just having 'a moment'.  What will they think if Ms. Fiorina’s moment lasts? Imagine their disgust if they had to start reporting that she's a policy wonk and a great communicator.  Oh Noes!
"Clinton is Fiorina’s foil and chief raison d’etre in the crowded Republican primary field. The only woman among the Republican candidates, she tells crowds that her business background makes her the more accomplished choice to become the first woman president.
And she is having a moment this week, trying to capitalize on Clinton's frequent reluctance to take questions at her campaign events and on general press grumpiness.  Clinton is avoiding questions about Iraq, her family foundation and her record at the State Department, Fiorina said Wednesday.  “The Republican Party needs a nominee who will ask these questions on a general debate stage” and answer them from reporters, Fiorina said outside the hotel."
This isn't a prediction but I wouldn't be surprised if Ms. Fiorina wound up being the fourth (and last) top tier candidate.  She's a great communicator and starting to come across a bit of a policy wonk, especially well-versed in explaining the negatives about regulations.  The other thing she has going for her is that she can rip on Hillary without coming across as mean. The fact that she's shadowing Hillary and grabbing lots of free press tells me that she's a savvy media person, too, which is important.

One thing that's become clear is that Ms. Fiorina isn't a sliver candidate like Rand Paul, Mike Huckabee, Rick Santorum or Chris Christie.  Earlier this week, Rand Paul made another foolish accusation against his presidential opponents when he accused Republicans of creating ISIS.  Statements like that immediately identify him as a fringe candidate.  The GOP won't nominate someone who is to the left of Hillary on national defense.

Rick Santorum doesn’t bring anything special to the field.  People won’t take a Johnny One-Note candidate who hasn't won an election since 2000.  He won the Iowa Caucuses in 2012, defeating Mitt Romney by a handful of votes.  To tell you how pathetic that is, Mike Huckabee defeated Mitt Romney by almost 11,000 votes and by 9 points in 2008. In 2012, Rick Santorum defeated Romney by 34 votes.

When your signature victory is by 34 votes over a candidate who didn't work the state that hard, it's a telling sign.

 And this from Hot Air:

"I’m waiting to see some fresh numbers either nationally or in the early primary states which is less than a couple of weeks old. I don't know how much Fiorina has moved the needle yet – assuming there's been motion – but she's picking up a ton of earned media everywhere she goes. And yet again, the way she's doing it isn't by starting a private, internecine grudge match such as the one between Rand Paul and Lindsey Graham. She's taking the battle to Hillary Clinton's doorstep… literally in this case."
Personally, I don't think she can win the nomination, but a classy chick none the less. And if she makes the cut for the debates, she can probably hold her own with the guys.  She might be a good choice for VP, but for now, she's extremely valuable as the only one in the GOP field that can take on at full throttle Hillary Clinton and not be accused of what anyone else would be.

Expect some serious burning of the midnight oil at Clinton Opposition Research, and hit pieces by Clinton friendly media sources if Mrs. Fiorina’s campaign picks ups any speed in the near future.
